Frequently Asked Questions

How Should I Dress?

Wear comfortable shoes and comfortable clothing, and dress for the weather.  We also recommend bringing a bottle of water along with you.  This is a walking tour, so be prepared to cover some ground.  Also, please be aware that Charleston has some notoriously uneven sidewalks.

What is your cancellation policy?

Tours can be cancelled up to 24 hours before the scheduled tour time and receive a refund, minus a $10 processing fee.  The only exception to the 24-hour policy would be in the event of severe weather on the day of the tour, or any event which we deem would put our guides and guests at risk.

Where do the tours meet?

For the Limited Group Tour, we will meet in front of the Charleston City Gallery located at 34 Prioleau Street.

If you reserve a Private Tour, and if you are staying in the historic district, we can often meet you at your hotel!  Depending on the location, we do usually recommend at least a three-hour tour in this instance.  For all other tours, our guides will meet you at the benches in front of the Charleston City Gallery, located at 34 Prioleau St, or at another suitable location of the guest's choosing.

Can you accommodate larger groups?

Yes!  With enough advance notice, we can accommodate groups of almost any size.  Please contact us if you are interested in booking a Private Tour for more than four people, school groups, corporate groups, family reunions, or any larger party.

Do tours still operate in the rain?

Our tours will run rain or shine.  The only exception to this would be in the event of extreme weather which we would determine to be dangerous.  Charleston weather can be quite fickle, so if the forecast calls for rain it is good to be prepared.

Can I request that the tour focus on certain subjects?

For our Private Tours, yes!  With advance notice, we can tailor the tour to focus on almost any subject you are interested in.  Some of our areas of expertise include Charleston's Gullah and West African heritage, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, local architecture, pirates, the women of Charleston, the churches of Charleston, local Jewish history, culinary history, and early colonial history.

For our Limited Group Tour, we encourage questions on tour, and with our limited group size, it makes it easier to focus on any particular subject that you might be interested in.

Is what I see on the calendar all that is available?  What about last minute bookings?

If you don't see the tour time you want, or it is short notice and there are no tour times listed, please call or text.  We can sometimes accommodate bookings that are not available online.

Will we be able to purchase refreshments on tour?

For the Limited Group Tour, once the tour starts, we will not be able to stop.  We recommend having everything you need ready before the tour starts.

For a Private Tour, there are a few places to hop in and purchase food and drinks while on tour, but please be aware that once the tour travels south of Broad, there will be little to no opportunities to purchase refreshments or use the restroom.  If you find your stomach growling, you can always ask your guide to stop so you can grab a bite somewhere along the way.  After all, this is your tour!

Are your guides vaccinated for Covid-19? Are masks required?

Yes, all of our guides have been fully vaccinated.  We ask that if you are experiencing any symptoms of Covid that you please avoid going out in public.  As the tour will take place outdoors, masks are not required.  However, please be aware that some museums and shops in Charleston will require facemasks for entry.
